Ferocactus cylindraceus lecontei Fire Barrel Cactus
Ferocactus cylindraceus are distinguished from other ferocactus by their long, highly variable sickle shaped central spines. Like other ferocactus, Ferocactus cylindraceus are barrel shaped when young, but grow to be quite tall and cylindrical shaped. The spines of Ferocactus cylindraceus are highly variable in color, length, thickness, and shape. Ferocactus cylindraceus spine color ranges from deep red to yellow to pink to white and everthing in between. This multi headed fire barrel is a Mohave Desert Native that normally grows high on steep rocky cliffs, where not much else can grow. Ferocactus cylindraceus can withstand snow.
